Apmex Reviews: An Overview

If you are someone who has never shopped at Apmex, the reviews here may seem a bit unfair. But if you have shopped there, then you know what we are talking about.
The negative reviews here deal with customer satisfaction, order processing, and customer service.

The Daily Coin

A Daily Coin reader wrote, "Problems started when prices went up. They charged tax on shipping and were just terrible customer service about return issues. I used to order on a regular basis but no longer do. I had a $135 order that took over 3 months to arrive. They charged me tax in advance on shipping and refused to refund it. They just made it a worse experience by ignoring my emails and ignoring my phone calls."
A 2015 reader wrote, "Their customer service is terrible. They will not honor their return policy. They will not give you a refund. They will not give you store credit. They do not want to do anything to make it right. They want you to just accept their bad choices."
A 2020 reader wrote, "Don't order anything from APMEX. They will tell you that with a $25 order, you get free shipping. Then, when you look to review the order, they will charge tax. In my case, they charged me $11.25 in taxes. This is BS. I will never order from them again."
A 2021 reader wrote, "They're taking forever to ship. I ordered two products on Feb. 17, 2021 and they're still sitting on their shelf. Customer service is rude. They don't respond to emails."

What Types of Complaints Exist About Apmex Reviews?

Complaints about Apmex are nothing new, and they've existed for as long as the online retailer has existed.
There were widespread complaints about Apmex's lack of customer service, its poor communication policy, its outdated inventory, and its inconvenient refund policy, to name a few. Apmex has addressed the issue of customer service by making a concerted effort to hire more customer service representatives, but, beyond that, there isn't much that can be done to improve Apmex's reputation.

Bad Customer Service

The customer service at Apmex, for all of these years, has been abysmal. They repeatedly fail to give accurate and timely responses, and if they are able, they give responses that are full of half-truths, or outright lies.
They refuse to ship bullion to anyone but the 21 states listed on their website. They refuse to ship coins to anyone but the 4 states listed on their website. They refuse to ship to APO addresses. They refuse to ship to P.O. boxes.
They refuse to ship anywhere but the 50 states in the U.S.
Customer service at Apmex is so bad that I no longer do business with them.

Shipping Issues

Companies like Apmex are known for shipping precious metals, but occasionally customers do not receive their orders. People have complained about orders not arriving after 2-3 weeks.
Stock Issues
Customers have complained about the availability as well as the price on the company's stock. Some customers were upset that the stock became unavailable during one of the big gold bull markets of 2016.
No Refunds
Apmex does not offer refunds on any order. Even if a customer receives the wrong item, they will not issue a refund.

Poor Communication

When a customer has a complaint, they want it heard and addressed. But too often, customers are left unheard and unsatisfied.
Poor Customer Service
Good customer service should be easy. But too many customers complain about poor customer service from Apmex.

Lack of Product Variety

The selection of items available from Apmex is limited. While the company offers gold and other precious metals, it does not offer the wide range of collectible coins and bullion that is available from some other dealers.
Lack of Coin or Bar Size Options
Apmex does not offer bullion coins and bars in smaller sizes. Those who want smaller quantities of gold and other precious metals must purchase a higher weight unit.
High Shipping Costs
While shipping is free for products under $99, items over that value cost approximately $12.50 to ship.
Lack of Customer Service
Apmex's customer service is not readily available. When customers need information about their orders or products, they must call a customer service representative. Those who want to receive information about the status of their shipment must call the shipping department.

The Bottom Line

As one of the most popular online gold sellers, Apmex is generally regarded as a reputable and reliable service. However, a few negative reviews still persist. Since such sites are not regulated, it's difficult to verify the validity of these complaints.
