Bill O'Reilly is a legendary television personality known for his controversial views. His new show, The O'Reilly Factor, airs on Fox News Channel.
O'Reilly took over as host of The O'Reilly Factor in 1996 after former host, the late, great Geraldo Rivera, left the show. He stayed on until 2017, when his contract was not renewed.
There can be little doubt that O'Reilly is conservative, but he makes a point of emphasizing his views are his own, not the company's. He says, "I'm at the company's mercy. If I say something wrong or offensive, the company can terminate me."
Prior to his television career, O'Reilly was a journalist and best-selling author who spent more than 20 years at Levittown, New York's, Newsday. He has written several best-selling books, including the New York Times best-sellers Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy.
